Welcome to OpenRack! This article is designed to give you a quick overview of the editors capabilities, and get you building your rack as soon as possible.
First, create a new project. Set the type to "Rack". This will create a new blank rack project.
Next, we'll add an appliance. Find the Project Tree (left panel). In this panel, click on the (+) button next to the Appliances group. Select "Browse Appliances". This will open the Inline Appliance Browser. You can search for and add appliances to your rack in this window. Search for "Server". You'll see multiple options. You can either select it to add to your rack, or you can open the Appliance Library page to view more details. For now, we'll click "Add Appliance" to import it into our Rack Project. Repeat this step to add another appliance.
Next, we'll move the appliance to a lower U position in the rack. Select the new appliance by clicking on it in the Project Tree or in the 3D view. Find the "y" attribute in the Properties panel (right panel) and set it to something different, like "5".
Now, we'll make a connection between these appliances. Click on a port in the 3D view to select it. Then, in the Project Tree panel, click on the (+) icon next to the port. This will initiate a connection creation. Find the port you want to connect to and click on it to select it. Click on the new port's (+) icon to finish the connection. A new connection will be created and you will see it in the 3D view. You can also view active connections in the Properties panel of that port.
Finally, we'll make a schematic of our rack. Navigate to the top navbar. Click on Diagram > New Diagram to open the diagram menu. From here, you can select from a number of diagrams. For our example, you can click on Overview - Front to generate a new overview diagram.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a new project, added an appliance, and then generated a dynamic diagram in OpenRack!
