How can I verify an appliance is compatible with my rack?

Last updated: December 9, 2025

When creating a Rack Project, you may select a specification preset for the dimensions of your rack. By default, this is set to EIA-310-D, which is the most common type of rack found in datacenters. You may select from a list of common specifications, or set your own custom dimensions for rack post spacing, size, and "U" or Unit size. The specification type of your rack can be found in the spec sheet, available from most manufacturers.

When adding an appliance to your Project from the appliance browser built in to the editor, the search results will automatically hide incompatible appliances. Each appliance has an attribute that specifies the compatible rack-mounting specification. You can also search and filter by mounting specification directly in the Library.

You can also specify a custom rack-mounting specification when creating a custom appliance. Just search for and add the "Mounting Specification" meta attribute to your custom appliance.
